Sime Darby Engineering Sdn Bhd (SDE) began its journey in 1981 under the name of Sime Darby Services Sdn Bhd. In September 1983, the name was changed to Sime Sembawang Engineering Sdn Bhd and subsequently changed to Sime SembCorp Engineering Sdn Bhd in 1999. Sime SembCorp Engineering Sdn Bhd was then, a joint venture between Sime Darby Berhad (70%) and SembCorp Utilities Pte Ltd of Singapore (30%).
In January 2005, Sime Darby Berhad acquired full ownership of SDE, and the company was renamed Sime Darby Engineering Sdn Bhd.

SDE has a proven track record in delivering complete EPIC packages since 1997, with a hallmark of over 150 structures being fabricated for local and international clients.
SDE employs more than 2,000 people to support the company’s network of operations in Malaysia and Qatar. The 128 acre fabrication yard in Johor, Malaysia is equipped with three 15,000MT load-out wharves. The yard’s capacity is 55,000MT per annum. SDE’s market segments traditionally have been in Malaysia, India and the Middle East region, whilst capitalising on opportunities in other regions.

SDE operates an approved Quality Management System, which meets the requirements of ISO9001, ISO14001 and OHSAS 18001 which is independently audited by BQVI.
